Ann Arbor Class of 1970 Demographics--Update July 2, 2010

For those classmates interested, I've compiled some demographic information about our graduating class. I reviewed several directories that were printed by Harris Publishing, the Pioneer graduates from 1930-1996 was published in 1996 and the Huron graduates from 1968-2001 was published in 2001 and they have updated editions in 2007 and 2008. Both showed a list of all graduates for 1970 and I also borrowed a Huron Enthymion yearbook which printed a list of seniors, pictured and not pictured. It appears that we had 1256 graduates, 519 from Huron and 737 from Pioneer. There were some Class of 1969 students listed though.

Based on this information and reviewing 200 classmates on classmates.com and at least 200 classmates on Facebook, I have been able to find 415 e-mails so far (although not all may be accurate) and locate many addresses and other anecdotes the directories provide. According to information I've received, we have 56 deceased classmates; obviously, I have no way to authenticate the accuracy of this information. Of the 289 classmates that I'm unsure about what state they are in, some are on Facebook, registered with Classmates.com and I have 12 e-mails for them.

Of the 1017 classmates that I've been able to track through these directories, Facebook and classmates.com, there were 542 in Michigan which is about 56.4% of our current known class. I realize that not all are still in Michigan as some classmates may still use parents or other relatives addresses to report to these directories so it is not 100% accurate.

Of the remaining 419 classmates that reside outside of Michigan, California has 48 classmates followed by Florida with 31, Texas 27, Massachusetts 23, New York and Washington with 21 each, Ohio has 18, Virginia 17, Arizona with 16, Colorado and North Carolina 14 each, Pennsylvania and Illinois with 12 each, Indiana with 11, Georgia and New Mexico with 9 each, Kentucky and Maryland with 8 each, Minnesota, Oregon and Tennessee with 7 each, Hawaii, New Jersey and South Carolina with 5 each and every state has some representation except Wyoming, North and South Dakota. We have at least 8 classmates residing out of the country with 3 in Canada and one each residing in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Israel and Mexico.
